Saccharification of biomass to fermentable sugar is a major constraint for bioethanol production due to high cost of enzyme production and complications associated with the removal of hearse acid, alkali and salts formed after neutralization. Ethanol fermentation was also conducted by separate hydrolysis and fermentation (SHF) and simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) processes using the pretreated reed as a glucose source to determine the feasibility of using reed in bioethanol production.
